The Teaching of Physical Geography Through the Creationist and Evolutionist Perspectives: A Reflection on the Directives of National Curriculum and the Teaching Books in the Area.
Keywords:
Geography, Creationism, Evolution, Teaching Methodology.Abstract
The objective of this research is to discuss the educational policy adopted for the
teaching of Physical Geography through the Creationist and Evolutionist perspectives. The research was established upon: interviews with Publishing Houses that produce Teaching Books of Geography, and with researchers on the field; the analysis of bibliographical resources on the issue, and of the policies that regulate this area. I conclude with a critic to the current teaching methodology in use in the country, and to the unilateral way that the theme is presented in the classroom. I defend an equivalency in the presentation of both points of view in the classroom, in order to empower the student to make his/her option for the one that would
be more coherent for him/her.
