Gift of Tongues, Church, Corinth.Abstract
The present study focuses in the manifestation of the gift of tongues in the Church in Corinth. How to understand the counsels of Paul that are found in the epistle? Do they represent a pattern to be followed today? This research looks for answers to these questions. It overviews the opinions of the major scholars that deal with the phenomenon of “speaking in tongues” in the context of Corinth and in the context of history. In view of the difficulties to establish the reality concerning this case in the Church of Corinth, it is of primary importance to get a better knowledge of the characteristics of that city at the time, of the influences that permeated the life style of its natives, and the other pertinent data concerning the theme in question.
