The Priest-King of Psalm 110: exegesis and commentary
Keywords:
Psalm 110, Messianism, Priest, KingAbstract
After a brief analysis of the structure and authorship of the text, this article seeks to make an exegesis of Psalm 110, trying to identify its messianic characteristics present in the text. It is a royal psalm, where the functions of the king of Israel and the priesthood are combined into one individual. Who is this priest-king? Is the author replicating an ancient Middle East practice? Through the study of the images
of kingship and priesthood, as well as the oracles of YHWH, it is possible to extract its messianic message, later used in the New Testament to identify Jesus Christ.
