Abstract

This research is a brief study concerning the identity of the Archangel Michael. The text in focus is Jude 9 where the fight between Satan and Michael concerning the body of Moses is depicted. The nature of this research is biblical-theological and its goal is do clarify who is Michael in Scriptures. Two main opinions exists concerning Michael’s identity: (1) He is a common angel with a high standing in the heavenly courts; (2) He is Christ. Who in fact is Michael? How to understand Jude’s statement? This research wants to answer such questions. The method applied in this study is the Close Reading of the text, with special emphasis in the immediate historical context of the Book of Jude and the lexical and syntactical analysis of the words Archangel, Michael and Devil.
