Abstract

There are as many concepts of liberty as there are different forms of culture. Nevertheless, it is possible a systematization of these concepts if one considers some factors that they have in common. One of these factors is the role of laws, either natural or moral. This determinates the notion that Liberty does not exists in absolute terms, rather it is a condition in strict relation to the laws. A condition of Liberty is the capacity of a person to choose through the deployment of his will. This capacity is called the Free Will. However, the exercise of the will must be oriented to the choice of good. The contrary would lead to destruction and death. In order to capacitate the will to choose good, it is necessary to maintain communion with the Source of all good and truth: God. The man who lives such communion will know the truth and will become free. Liberty is to live dependent on the will of God.
