Education and Eschatology: Why Theological Education is Necessary

Abstract

This article discusses the relationship between Christian eschatological hope and the importance of theological education, especially within the Adventist context. Drawing on a personal experience, the author reflects on the danger of educational neglect based on a mistaken understanding of the imminence of Christ’s return. By referencing Jesus’ eschatological discourses and the example of the prophet Daniel, the article argues that theological preparation is essential for dealing with the complex challenges of the modern world and for serving effectively in the Christian mission. It demonstrates that both the Protestant Reformation and the Adventist movement developed through leaders deeply committed to biblical study and solid theological training. Theological education is presented not as an unnecessary luxury, but as an indispensable tool for preserving biblical truth, promoting discipleship, and responding appropriately to contemporary dilemmas. The conclusion reinforces that theology and mission walk hand in hand, and that a mature faith requires knowledge, critical reflection, and humility.
