Abstract

The question that dominates the study of the NT in recent decades is related to the problem of “Historical Jesus”, a term that refers to the life Yešua of Nazareth, from his birth in Bethlehem until his execution in Jerusalem. Since the eighteenth century, some theologians, based on naturalistic methodological presuppositions, promote research of the Historical Jesus from the perspective of the historical analysis. They conclude that the Gospels are not historically a reliable source to know the true Jesus of History. They argue that the Gospels present fictitious, mythical and theological material, to promote the Christian faith, which is a clear challenge to the historical veracity o f them. The author presents a summary of this quest for the historical Jesus and provides reasons to believe in the “historical Jesus”, the Christ of Faith, the Jesus of the Gospels, the Jesus who actually existed in History.
