The article explores the phenomenon of the "baptism in the Holy Spirit" and glossolalia (speaking in tongues) within the context of the Brazilian Pentecostal movement, particularly in the Assemblies of God tradition. The research seeks to understand how Pentecostal authors present and justify the gift of tongues from a historical and theological perspective. The study organizes the perspectives of various authors regarding the doctrinal basis of glossolalia. The phenomenon is analyzed as a sign of the baptism in the Holy Spirit, as a spiritual gift, and as a missiological element. The article concludes that glossolalia plays a multifaceted role in Brazilian Pentecostalism, functioning as a sign of spiritual inclusion, a means of personal edification, and an expression of the interaction between the Holy Spirit and believers.
