A “meia hora de silêncio no céu” tem sido foco de diversas interpretações na Igreja Adventista do Sétimo Dia. Em alguns casos, isso acontece devido a declarações tomadas dos escritos de Ellen White aplicadas pelo leitor ao texto de Apocalipse 8:1. Esse estudo explora os textos de Ellen White usados na interpretação dessa complexa passagem. Tais textos serão avaliados separadamente à luz da exegese bíblica e da análise de palavras-chave da narrativa. Tudo isso para responder à pergunta: Os textos de Ellen White podem ser usados na interpretação de Ap 8:1? Esta investigação conclui que não, uma vez que a exegese bíblica conclui que o sétimo selo deve ser visto como um evento posterior à parousia – provavelmente o milênio. Jesus abre esse último selo no céu (morada de Deus), o que geraria um silêncio atmosférico (terra e arredores) de expectativa. Por outro lado, a “meia hora” não pode ser explicada pelo princípio “dia/ano”, devendo ser interpretada como um breve tempo relacionado ao juízo dos ímpios.
