Keywords:

The objective of this study is to identify the reasons for low attendance to the worship services at Sunday night in the Adventist churches in the central region of the State of São Paulo. Since Sunday is a day when the great majority of people does not work or study, this research tried to identify the reasons for such low attendance and if they of a geographic, social, pastoral, financial, spiritual, liturgical nature, or of any other specific reason. The results of the investigation pointed out to six major factors: (1) the poor quality and lack of content of Sunday worship service; (2) lack of involvement by the local church with the community at large; (3) members’ lack of interest for spiritual activities; (4) problems on the level of communion of the believer with God; (5) lack of a missionary vision by the leadership; and (6) the members’ attachment to the programs of the Brazilian television. At the end of this study, some strategies were suggested for the reversal of this situation.
